2018 Wildfire Community Preparedness Award and Grant

We have applied for a grant from the National Fire Protection Agency to help us make our narrow woods roads at Camp Pirtle safer and more effective by cutting the brush that overhangs those roads.  Now we need all of ETAC’s Scouts & Scouters help to make that grant a reality. As part of awarding the grant, a contest is underway to help decide who gets the funds. If we are selected, the funds will be used to hire a contractor who operates a tractor with a boom-mounted rotary cutter to cut back vegetation along the aforementioned roads. That will enhance wildfire preparedness by providing safe access and egress for road maintenance crews and for firefighters who will be able to quickly and safely implement fire control measures. That may also prevent a fire's spreading onto adjacent private properties

To vote use the following link:

  • All votes must be submitted by Friday, March 2, 2018 by 11:59:59 pm ET.
  • Winners will be announced on March 21, 2018.
  • Contest limited to one vote per person, per day.

Voting is very important because the number of votes received by the project will be factored into the decision to grant the proposal.

Thank you for your help with this very significant project for the George W. Pirtle Scout Reservation and a for helping ETAC fund the cost of the activity.
